Speaking with the Eyes

I came out to the beach near the villa to enjoy some time alone fishing. I walked along the coast to look for a good spot and saw that an Otter was already there.

I must've come to the right spot. If an Otter is fishing there, it means there are a lot of fish. I set up my spot and pulled out my fishing rod.

We never spoke to each other, but it seemed as if we started a silent competition.

The Otter was the first one to catch a fish. It let out a "Queek!", held up the fish and glanced at me with a satisfied look on his face.

Moments after, I also caught my first catch of the day. It was bigger than the one the Otter caught. I was feeling smug, but I tried not to show it.

The sun was setting. Both the Otter and I never caught another fish that day.

It was nighttime, and it was time for us to leave. We silently looked at each other, as if to say it was a good fight.

What a day.
