When I arrived at the first gateway to the desert, the magnificent desert had me lost for words. Body-melting heat filled up the heavens and earth, and the endless sea of sand stretched as far as I could see.

Many traverse through and reside in this desert, yet it does not seem like an easy place to settle down in. Thus, I feel much respect for the people of Valencia.

As I looked down on the desert from atop a cliff, I was hit with a wave of confusion. What I'd regarded as an obvious truth, the truth about the steadfastness of the creatures of this earth, suddenly felt out of place.

Why do the people of Valencia look so different from me? Not just people, come to think of it, but all living creatures in Valencia seem different somehow, but different in specific ways. Did they all somehow change to adapt to the desert climate? Is that even possible?

I wonder if it's okay to even possess such radical thoughts.
