Cheongsa Lanterns of Cheongsa Island

Description

Cheongsa lanterns hung as decoration and used as a symbol of the merchant guild. These finely crafted lanterns have a square frame, with red cloth above and blue cloth below. The red represents umbral energy, the blue luminous energy, together symbolizing harmony between the two.

In the Land of the Morning Light, such lanterns are commonly used for weddings. On Cheongsa Island, however, they remain lit throughout the year. The island itself takes its name from these lanterns.
